Daly City Mural Promotes Healthy, Happy Lives

A festive mood prevailed over the parking lot of the Daly City Youth Health Center Thursday during a public celebration for the muralists of the Oceana High School Community Mural Project. The muralists painted over the whole facade of the entryway lo the health care center, which is in the back of 2780 Junipero Serra Blvd. The mural portrays a theme of multiculturalism, of giving life and of promoting health and happiness. The student members of the Mural Project conceived and re-worked the design for the mural last year during their senior year. Even though they graduated, they showed up to see their design to fruition by meeting with the Mayor of Daly City, Adrienne Tissier, for approval and by completing the painting, a little bit at a lime over the past six months. Graham Cruickskank is the teacher in charge of the mural project. He received a grant from the Christensen Foundation to support a three-year after school program to teach mural arts. Bedrock Construction donated the scaffolding. Pictured below are Graham Cruickshank with Barbara Raboy, the executive director of the Daly City Youth Health Center. Marie Shartara, one of the muralists, who Is now a Skyline College student majoring in art and international business, is pictured here signing her name for posterity to the colorful work of art.
